Maruti e-Vitara vs Windsor EV: Price, Range and Features Compared — Which EV Makes More Sense?

India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, has officially entered the electric vehicle space with the launch of its first electric SUV, the e-Vitara. The model marks a major shift for the brand and puts it in direct competition with popular electric SUVs already present in the market, including the Windsor EV, which is currently among the best-selling electric cars in India.

For buyers considering an EV, the e-Vitara and Windsor EV emerge as close rivals. Here’s a detailed look at how the two compare in terms of price, range, and features.

Price and Battery Subscription Model

One major similarity between the two EVs is the availability of a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option. Under this model, customers pay a lower upfront vehicle price and are charged separately for battery usage on a per-kilometre basis, reducing initial ownership costs.

The e-Vitara is expected to start at ₹10.99 lakh under the BaaS scheme, with a battery usage charge of ₹3.99 per kilometre. The full price with battery ownership has not yet been announced.

The Windsor EV also offers a battery subscription plan, making both vehicles attractive for buyers looking to lower entry costs into electric mobility.

Range and Battery Options

Maruti claims a maximum driving range of up to 543 km on a single charge for the e-Vitara. It will be offered in three variants—Delta, Zeta, and Alpha—with two battery packs:

  • 49 kWh battery (Delta variant): Claimed range of around 400–420 km (ARAI)

  • 61 kWh battery (Zeta and Alpha variants): Higher claimed range of up to 543 km

The Windsor EV comes with two battery options as well:

  • 38 kWh battery with a range of around 331–332 km

  • 52.9 kWh battery with a range of about 449 km

The Windsor EV produces 136 hp and 200 Nm of torque and supports DC fast charging up to 60 kW with the larger battery pack.

Features and Technology

In terms of features, the Windsor EV stands out for its tech-heavy approach. The top variant offers Level-2 ADAS, including adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and traffic jam assist. It also supports V2L and V2V charging, allowing users to power external devices or charge another EV. Other highlights include a powered tailgate, a 15.6-inch touchscreen, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a panoramic glass roof, and a 9-speaker Infinity sound system.

The e-Vitara focuses on comfort and a premium cabin experience. It features a modern digital cockpit with a twin-deck floating center console, a uniquely styled steering wheel, fixed glass sunroof, dual-tone soft-touch interiors, and multi-color ambient lighting. A 10.1-inch infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital display handle infotainment and vehicle data. Additional comforts include ventilated front seats, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and sliding 40:20:40 split rear seats. Higher variants also get Level-2 ADAS for safety.
