JSW MG Motor India is gearing up to expand its SUV portfolio with the launch of a brand-new model on August 28. Expected to be named the MG Hector Hawk, the upcoming SUV will introduce the company's new-generation ADAPT platform and will be offered in both fully electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions.

The SUV is believed to be based on the globally available Wuling Starlight 560 and has already been spotted testing multiple times on Indian roads. With a length of approximately 4.7 metres, a width of 1.85 metres, and a height of 1.7 metres, the new model is expected to offer a spacious cabin and strong road presence.

Spy images suggest the electric variant will feature a modern exterior design with sleek LED headlamps, integrated daytime running lights (DRLs), a closed-off front grille, full-width LED taillights, a roof-mounted spoiler, and a charging port positioned on the left rear fender.

Inside the cabin, MG is expected to offer a premium and tech-focused experience. The SUV could come equipped with an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated and electrically adjustable front seats, a 50W wireless phone charger, a six-speaker audio system, and automatic climate control with rear AC vents.

Safety is also likely to be a major highlight. Expected features include six airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), hill-hold assist, an electronic parking brake, a rear-view camera with parking sensors, and an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite as standard across the range.

Under the hood, the all-electric version is expected to use a front-mounted electric motor producing around 201 hp and 310 Nm of torque, paired with a 69.2 kWh battery pack. It is claimed to deliver a driving range of up to 530 km on the CLTC test cycle.

The plug-in hybrid version is expected to combine a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor and a 20.5 kWh battery pack. The combined output is likely to be around 195 hp and 230 Nm of torque, while offering an electric-only driving range of up to 125 km before the petrol engine takes over.

The new ADAPT platform has been designed to support multiple electrified powertrains, including battery electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, strong hybrids, and range-extender models. However, MG has indicated that it will initially focus on launching only the EV and PHEV versions in India.

Positioned above the current MG Hector in the company's lineup, the Hector Hawk is expected to target buyers looking for a premium three-row SUV with advanced technology and electrified powertrain options. The electric version is likely to compete with the Mahindra XEV 9e, while the plug-in hybrid model is expected to take on rivals such as the Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Safari.

With its combination of modern styling, feature-rich cabin, advanced safety technology, and electrified powertrains, MG's upcoming SUV could become one of the most anticipated launches in India's premium SUV segment this year.
