Insects like ants, cockroaches, mosquitoes, and flies often enter homes due to dampness, poor cleanliness, or open spaces. These pests are not just annoying but can also pose serious health risks. Flies and cockroaches contaminate food and utensils, causing food poisoning and allergies, while mosquitoes can spread dangerous diseases such as malaria, dengue, and chikungunya.
Maintaining cleanliness and keeping your home dry is the first step toward prevention. Along with that, some simple natural remedies using household ingredients can help keep these insects away without using harsh chemicals.
How to Get Rid of Ants
Black pepper, a common kitchen spice, is an effective natural remedy against ants. Grind black pepper into a powder and sprinkle it in areas where ants are frequently seen, such as corners, shelves, or near entry points. You can also place small bowls of pepper powder to repel them.
Natural Remedies to Repel Mosquitoes
To keep mosquitoes away, mix neem oil, lemon juice, and water and spray it in rooms and corners.
The fragrance of lavender is also known to repel mosquitoes—you can place dried flowers at home or use lavender oil in a diffuser.
Another effective method is to burn dried neem leaves, bay leaves, and a small piece of camphor. The smoke helps drive away mosquitoes and reduces bacteria in the air.
How to Eliminate Cockroaches
Cockroaches usually thrive in dark, dirty, and damp areas, especially kitchen sinks and drains. Baking soda can help control them. Dissolve baking soda in warm water and pour it into sink pipes, corners, and cracks where cockroaches are commonly found. This method helps repel them naturally.
Tips to Keep Flies Away
Flies carry bacteria from garbage, drains, and waste, which can cause diarrhea, vomiting, and nausea. To keep flies away, wipe kitchen surfaces with vinegar or place small bowls of vinegar in areas where flies gather. The strong smell discourages them from lingering.
How to Keep Lizards Out of the House
To repel lizards, place eggshells near walls or corners, as their smell deters them. Garlic cloves are also effective—keep peeled cloves in different areas of the house. Additionally, peacock feathers can be used as decorative items while helping keep lizards away.
