Pakistan Announces T20 Squad for Asian Games 2026, Sahibzada Farhan Named Captain

Pakistan has announced its 15-member men’s T20 squad for the Asian Games 2026, with Sahibzada Farhan appointed as captain and Abdul Samad named vice-captain.

The squad has been selected for the Asian Games scheduled to take place in Japan in September–October 2026. The team includes a mix of experienced players and several uncapped T20 internationals, indicating a transitional approach by the selectors.

Among the notable inclusions are young and uncapped players such as Aqif Javed, Ali Raza, Maaz Sadaqat, and Saad Masood, who will be making their first appearances in a major multi-sport event setup if selected in the playing XI.

Farhan, who has played 46 T20 internationals for Pakistan national cricket team, will be leading the side for the first time in a white-ball tournament. His appointment brings a dual responsibility—contributing as a top-order batter while also handling leadership duties in a high-pressure international competition.

Several big names are missing from the squad, including Babar Azam, Shadab Khan, Haris Rauf, and Shaheen Shah Afridi, suggesting a strategy to rest senior players and test emerging talent.

Pakistan had finished fourth in the previous Asian Games edition, and the team will now aim to improve that performance and push for a gold medal in the upcoming tournament.
