Every person's biggest dream is to own a home. A place they can call their own and where their family can feel safe. But due to rising inflation and the skyrocketing cost of construction materials, many people, despite having land, are unable to build a home. If you're in a similar situation, there's some good news for you.
Under a special central government scheme, if you own land, you can receive financial assistance of up to 1.5 lakh rupees for building a house. The primary objective of this scheme is to provide shelter to poor and middle-class families in the country.
What is this government scheme?
This assistance is primarily provided under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). This scheme has various components, one of which is "Beneficiary Led Construction" (BLC). Under this scheme, funds are provided to those who already own uncultivated land or an old kutcha house and wish to build a permanent house.
This money is transferred directly to the beneficiary's bank account in installments, ensuring that construction work does not stop. This government initiative has already helped millions of people fulfill their dream of owning a permanent home.
Who will get the benefit of this scheme?
Some basic eligibility conditions have been fixed to avail the benefits of this scheme:
- The applicant must have valid documents of the land in his name.
- The applying family should not have any other pucca house anywhere in India.
- The annual income of the family should be within the limit prescribed by the government.
- It is mandatory for you to have Aadhar card, bank account and an active mobile number.
How to apply from mobile?
In today's digital age, you don't need to visit government offices. You can complete the initial process from your smartphone:
Visit the official portal: First, log in to the official website of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (pmaymis.gov.in).
Citizen Assessment: Select the 'Citizen Assessment' option on the website and select your category.
Fill in Aadhaar details: Enter your Aadhaar number and name. The form will proceed only if the information is correct.
Enter the information: A detailed form will open, requiring you to provide your personal information, land address, bank account details, and income details.
Submit: After thoroughly checking the form, enter the captcha code and submit it.
Apart from this, you can also apply by visiting your nearest Public Service Centre (CSC) at a very nominal fee.
Process of getting money
After submitting your application, local administration or municipal officials conduct a physical verification of your land. They determine whether your land is actually suitable for a house. Once the verification is successful, your name is added to the beneficiary list. Funds are then transferred to your account based on the various stages of home construction (such as laying the foundation, installing the roof, etc.).
