PM Modi Receives Indonesia’s Highest Civilian Honour, Calls It a Symbol of India-Indonesia Friendship

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been awarded Indonesia’s highest civilian honour during his visit to Jakarta. The recognition was announced by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, who presented PM Modi with the prestigious Bintang Adipurna of the Republic of Indonesia.

The honour was given during PM Modi’s three-nation tour, with Indonesia being the first stop. The award recognises individuals who have made exceptional contributions toward the unity, continuity, and prosperity of Indonesia.

PM Modi Thanks Indonesia for the Honour

After receiving the award, PM Modi expressed gratitude and said the honour represents the friendship and shared values between the people of India and Indonesia.

He said the recognition belongs to the people of India and reflects the deep historical and cultural connections between the two nations. PM Modi thanked President Prabowo, the Indonesian government, and the people of Indonesia for the honour.

Focus on Technology and Youth Cooperation

During his visit, PM Modi highlighted the importance of technology-driven growth in the 21st century. He said both India and Indonesia have young populations with strong interest in technology and innovation.

The two countries agreed to strengthen cooperation in areas including:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Telecommunications
  • Digital public infrastructure
  • Startup ecosystems

PM Modi also announced that India’s premier management institute Indian Institute of Management Bangalore will establish a campus in Indonesia, marking a new step in educational cooperation.

Strengthening India-Indonesia Strategic Partnership

PM Modi’s visit aims to deepen ties under India’s Act East Policy and strengthen cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.

After arriving in Jakarta, PM Modi received a ceremonial welcome at Istana Merdeka and met President Prabowo Subianto for bilateral discussions.

The visit is expected to further expand cooperation between the two countries in areas such as trade, technology, defence, and regional security.

A New Chapter in Bilateral Relations

The honour comes as India and Indonesia continue to strengthen their strategic partnership. It follows President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to India in January 2025, when he attended the Republic Day Parade 2025 as the chief guest.

The latest recognition highlights the growing importance of India-Indonesia relations and the shared vision of both countries for stronger cooperation in the future.
