The central government's "PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme" has become a highly popular initiative to provide relief from electricity bills to 10 million households across the country and promote solar energy. Under this scheme, the government provides substantial subsidies for installing solar panels on rooftops.  

Key benefits and features of the scheme:
Up to 300 units of free electricity: This scheme provides eligible families with up to 300 units of free electricity per month (through solar energy generated).  

Substantial government subsidy:

On 1 kW plant: Subsidy of ₹30,000  

On 2 kW plant: Subsidy of ₹60,000  

On 3 kW or more capacity: Maximum subsidy of ₹78,000 is given.  

Bank loan at low interest rate: Banks easily provide loan at very low interest rate (without any guarantee) for the remaining cost of installing solar panels.  

Earning from excess electricity: If your house produces more electricity than it consumes, you can also earn additional income from the electricity company by sending it back to the grid (Net Metering).

Eligibility :
Applicant must be a resident of India.  

The applicant must have a valid and active domestic electricity connection in his/her name.  

To install solar panels at home, one must have his own concrete and shade-free roof.  

Required Documents:

Aadhar card

Recent Electricity Bill (with Consumer Number)

Bank Passbook / Cancelled Cheque

Mobile number and picture of the roof of the house

How to apply:

You can register online by visiting the official national portal pmsuryaghar.gov.in:  
Enter your state, electricity distribution company (DISCOM), and consumer number on the portal.
Fill out the rooftop solar application form.  
Once approved by the DISCOM, have your solar system installed by a registered vendor near you.
After net-metering, the subsidy amount will be deposited directly into your bank account (DBT).
