The central government's "PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Bill Scheme" is extremely beneficial for those who want to install solar panels on their rooftops. This scheme not only generates solar energy but also provides government subsidies. Free electricity reduces the burden on people and saves money.
This scheme was launched by the government in 2024 and aims to connect 10 million people to solar energy. According to reports, more than 5.1 million families have benefited from this scheme so far. Eligible beneficiaries can also receive up to 300 units of free electricity per month.
How much subsidy is there for 5 kilowatt solar?
Under the PM Suryaghar Yojana, the central government provides financial assistance based on the capacity of the solar panel. A subsidy of ₹30,000 is provided for a 1 kilowatt solar panel, and up to ₹60,000 for a 2 kilowatt solar panel. The maximum central government subsidy for installing a solar panel with a capacity of 3 kilowatts or more is ₹78,000. Significantly, even if a consumer installs a 5 kilowatt solar panel, they will still receive a maximum subsidy of ₹78,000 from the central government. This means that there is no additional increase in central subsidy for increasing the capacity beyond 3 kilowatts.
The state government also provides assistance
Some states offer financial assistance in addition to the central government subsidy. For example, in Uttar Pradesh, eligible consumers can receive an additional state subsidy of up to ₹30,000 for installing a solar system with a capacity of 3 kW or more. Thus, the combined central and state government assistance can benefit consumers up to ₹1.08 lakh.
