Public Firing in Patna Sparks Panic on Mahashivratri

Claims of heightened security during Mahashivratri were put to the test on Sunday after a brazen firing incident in Bihar’s capital. Two youths were shot at Shivaji Chowk under the jurisdiction of Ramakrishna Nagar police station, triggering panic in the area.

According to police, the injured have been identified as Bittu Kumar and Pintu Kumar. The two friends had arrived in a Scorpio vehicle and were having tea at a nearby shop when unidentified assailants on a motorcycle opened fire at them before fleeing the scene.

Locals rushed to help after hearing gunshots and immediately took the injured youths to a private hospital, where both are reported to be in critical condition.

Senior police officials, including Sadar SDPO-2 Ranjan Kumar Singh, reached the spot soon after receiving information about the incident. The area around Shivaji Chowk remained tense for some time following the shooting.

Old Rivalry Suspected

Preliminary investigation suggests the firing may be linked to a personal dispute and an old rivalry between the parties. Police sources revealed that a confrontation had also taken place about a year ago. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined to identify and track down the attackers.

The incident has raised serious questions about law and order, especially amid festival-related security arrangements.
