Rahul Gandhi Alleges Mass Voter Deletions, Presents Evidence in Press Conference

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Thursday once again attacked the government and the Election Commission, accusing them of large-scale voter deletions. At a press conference, he presented what he claimed to be evidence of targeted removals of Congress supporters’ names from electoral rolls.

Rahul Gandhi alleged that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar was shielding those who had “destroyed Indian democracy.” He cited data showing how votes were being deleted at alarming speed: two forms filled in 36 seconds and 12 voters’ names removed in just 14 minutes.

Focus on Aland Constituency
Rahul pointed to the Aland constituency in Karnataka, where, according to him, an attempt was made to delete at least 6,018 votes. He claimed the actual number was much higher but only detected by chance. A booth-level officer reportedly discovered that even his own uncle’s name had been deleted, allegedly without his or the supposed filer’s knowledge. “Some other force hijacked the process and deleted the vote,” Rahul said.

Centralized Process Alleged
According to Rahul, his investigation suggested that deletions were happening through a centralized system. He claimed that mobile numbers from outside Karnataka were being used and that deletions specifically targeted Congress voters.

Examples Presented

  • A voter named Godabai allegedly found that 12 deletions had been filed in her name without her knowledge.

  • Another voter, Suryakant, supposedly deleted 12 voters in 14 minutes but insisted he did not know how it happened.

  • In another instance, a man named Nagaraj was shown to have filled two forms within 36 seconds, early in the morning.

Rahul’s Larger Claim
Rahul Gandhi said he would not personally approach the courts or agencies, arguing that safeguarding democracy was the responsibility of India’s institutions. “My job is to participate in the democratic system, not to protect it. That’s the job of institutions, but they are failing,” he stated.

He further claimed that insiders within the Election Commission had begun sharing information with him and promised that such disclosures “will not stop.”
