A heart-wrenching incident unfolded during the ongoing Kanwar Yatra in Sonipat, where a young devotee, Jatin, who had undertaken the arduous journey carrying 51 litres of Gangajal, tragically passed away.

According to local sources, Jatin had been participating in the Shravan Kanwar Yatra, a religious pilgrimage in which devotees fetch holy water from the Ganges and offer it to Lord Shiva at local temples. Unlike many others who carry lighter loads, Jatin had pledged to carry a massive 51-litre kanwar—a symbolic and physically demanding feat.

Witnesses say that Jatin collapsed near the outskirts of Sonipat while returning with the Gangajal. Despite immediate efforts to revive him and rush him to the hospital, he was declared dead upon arrival. Preliminary reports suggest heatstroke and extreme physical exhaustion may have led to his untimely death, though a post-mortem examination is awaited to determine the exact cause.

Jatin was a resident of a nearby village and known for his devotion. His sudden demise has sent shockwaves through the local community, where he was admired for his faith and commitment.

Local authorities have urged kanwariyas to be cautious and not overburden themselves during the yatra, especially considering the intense heat and humidity this monsoon season. Medical camps and rest stations have been set up along the routes, but this tragic event highlights the risks involved in extreme physical challenges during religious pilgrimages.
