A sore throat isn’t just a winter problem—it can be quite common in summer too. Frequent consumption of cold drinks, ice cream, and constant exposure to air conditioners can dry out the throat and irritate its lining. Add dust and pollution to the mix, and it often leads to discomfort, cough, and irritation. Instead of ignoring it or immediately turning to medicines, a few simple home remedies can offer effective relief.
One of the easiest remedies is drinking honey with lukewarm water. Honey has natural antibacterial and soothing properties that help reduce irritation and keep the throat moist. Sipping this slowly can calm dryness and provide gentle relief from discomfort.
Gargling with salt water is another time-tested solution. Mixing a small amount of salt in warm water and gargling a couple of times a day helps reduce inflammation, kill bacteria, and ease throat pain quickly. It’s simple but highly effective.
Herbal drinks can also make a big difference. A warm tea made with ginger and tulsi (holy basil) works well to reduce soreness. Ginger helps with inflammation, while tulsi supports immunity, making this combination especially helpful for throat-related issues.
Drinking turmeric milk before bed is another beneficial habit. Turmeric has natural antiseptic properties that help fight infection and promote healing from within. It can soothe the throat overnight and reduce discomfort by morning.
Licorice is also known for its soothing effect on the throat. Slowly sucking on a small piece can help keep the throat lubricated and reduce dryness and irritation.
Along with these remedies, it’s important to stay hydrated, avoid excessive cold foods, and limit direct exposure to AC for long hours. With a little care and consistency, you can manage and prevent summer sore throat effectively.
