The Lok Sabha faced repeated disruptions during a scheduled special discussion on Operation Sindoor in the monsoon session, forcing two adjournments. The chaos erupted as the opposition demanded priority discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar.

Amid the commotion, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla sternly criticized SP leader Akhilesh Yadav and questioned the opposition's inconsistency. “Only those capable of decision-making should be sent to all-party and Business Advisory Committee meetings,” Birla said. He accused opposition leaders of raising one issue in committee meetings but behaving differently in the House. “Why didn’t you demand SIR discussion in the committee? Why did you say you wanted Operation Sindoor?” Birla questioned.

Opposition Slams Government Over SIR Silence

Congress MP KC Venugopal clarified that the opposition is ready for discussion on Operation Sindoor, asserting they had originally urged for a special session on the matter. However, he stressed that the SIR issue is critical to Indian democracy, as it affects every citizen's right to vote. “We only needed 30 seconds to raise the issue, but the government seems uninterested,” he said. The opposition has also approached the Speaker seeking permission to raise the matter officially.

Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi added, “The government appears to be avoiding discussion on Pahalgam and Operation Sindoor. Despite no slogans, placards, or disruptions from our side, the House was adjourned. We want to speak, but the mic is being muted.”

Government Accuses Opposition of Avoiding Debate

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju accused the opposition of backtracking. “They agreed to start the discussion on Operation Sindoor at noon, but brought up new demands just 10 minutes before,” he said.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal echoed the sentiment, saying, “The opposition’s behavior proves they’re evading a debate on Operation Sindoor. Their absence and disruption insult the bravery of our armed forces. Even Rahul Gandhi skipped the session, and their party members were scattered. This is not just disappointing—it’s shameful. The people of India will not forgive this.”

The Deadlock Continues

As both sides stand firm, the standoff over the sequence of debates has once again paralyzed proceedings in the Lok Sabha, with critical national discussions caught in political crossfire.
