Kannada film actor Darshan Thoogudeepa has suffered a major setback in the ongoing Renukaswamy murder case. The Supreme Court of India, in a bench comprising Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice R Mahadevan, has canceled the bail granted to Darshan and five other accused, including Pavitra Gowda. The court has also directed the police to immediately arrest Darshan.
This stern decision came after the Karnataka government petitioned the Supreme Court to revoke the bail granted by the Karnataka High Court. The Supreme Court had reserved its verdict on July 24 and has now ruled strictly in favor of canceling the bail, rejecting the state government's petition, and ordering urgent police action.
Background of the Case
In this high-profile case, serious allegations were made against Darshan. The police accused him of confining the victim in a shed in Bangalore for three days in June 2024, during which the victim was allegedly tortured. The body of the victim was later found in a drain. The involvement of Darshan and several other accused has drawn intense public and judicial scrutiny.
While the Karnataka High Court had earlier granted bail to all six accused individuals, the Supreme Court viewed this as a misuse of discretionary power and chose to intervene decisively.
