A tragic incident has come to light from Surat, where four members of a family allegedly consumed poison after prolonged financial distress and mental harassment. The incident occurred at Happy Elegance Apartments in the Vesu area of the city.
According to police, members of the Balmukund family took the extreme step together. The husband Balmukund, his wife Priyanka, and one daughter died, while their other daughter survived and is currently undergoing treatment in hospital.
Suicide note reveals alleged harassment
During the investigation, police recovered a three-page suicide note from the flat. In the note, the family reportedly mentioned severe financial pressure and named a local moneylender, Vaibhav Rungta, accusing him of mental harassment and extortion.
Police sources said the note alleged that the accused had seized Balmukund’s moped, taken possession of his credit card, and used it for personal purchases. The family claimed they were being continuously pressured over money, which pushed them into despair.
Police action underway
A team from Vesu Police Station reached the spot after receiving information. The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination, and a case of abetment to suicide has been registered against the accused.
Police officials stated that statements will be recorded, including that of the surviving daughter once her condition stabilises. The investigation is ongoing to verify all allegations mentioned in the suicide note.

The incident has left the Vesu locality in shock and mourning. Residents described the family as quiet and reserved, making the incident even more distressing for neighbours.
Authorities have assured strict action if the allegations of harassment and extortion are proven during the investigation.
