2021 Bengal poll violence case: The Supreme Court has shown the mirror to the Mamata government in its order. What the court has recorded in its order shows how BJP workers have to pay the price for supporting the opposition party under the rule of Mamata government. Instead of registering an FIR, the police asks the victim to leave the village to save his life.
Bengal poll violence case: The Supreme Court has made strong remarks while cancelling the bail of 6 TMC supporters for violently targeting Hindu families and their women for supporting the BJP during the 2021 assembly elections.
Supreme Court cancels bail of six people
The case is related to the 2021 assembly elections in Bengal. The Calcutta High Court had granted bail to 6 accused who attacked a Hindu family in this case. Hearing the CBI's appeal against this, the Supreme Court not only canceled the bail of these accused but also made a strong comment in its decision. The accused whose bail has been canceled include Sheikh Zameer Hussain, Sheikh Noorai, Sheikh Ashraf, Sheikh Karibul and Jayant Don.
What is the matter?
The matter is of May 2, 2021, when the results of the assembly elections in West Bengal were declared. In this case, the complainant said that he is a Hindu, while most of the people living in his village Gumsim (PO Jatra) belong to the Muslim community and are supporters of the ruling TMC party. The complainant said that being a minority in the village, he is not able to do religious activities anyway. Despite this, the complainant and some people of the village showed courage and started campaigning for BJP for the assembly elections.
When he asked for votes for BJP, TMC supporters committed atrocities.
This was not liked by the TMC supporters belonging to the Muslim community present in the village. They threatened that he and his family will have to pay the price for supporting BJP. Meanwhile, a bomb was also thrown at his tea shop before the elections. On May 2, 2021, when the election results were announced, about 40-50 miscreants gathered under the leadership of Sheikh Mahim and started throwing bombs at the complainant's house. The miscreants had sticks, knives, iron rods, revolvers. They attacked the house, destroyed it and looted the house. Not only this, the miscreants did not spare the complainant's wife either. The miscreants grabbed her hair, removed her clothes and forcibly undressed her.
Touched the private parts of the woman, stripped her naked...
Touched the private parts of the woman, molested her. Seeing no other option to escape in such a difficult situation, the woman poured kerosene oil on herself and threatened that if they proceed further, she would set herself on fire. After this the miscreants left the spot. The complainant somehow managed to save his life with his wife and two children and left the village. The next day he went to Sadaipur police station to register his complaint but the police station in-charge did not take the complaint. Instead of registering an FIR, the police station in-charge asked him to leave the village.
Police did not register FIR
In many incidents of violence after the elections in West Bengal, the police did not register FIR, due to which many petitions were filed in the High Court. On 19 August 2021, the Calcutta High Court ordered the CBI to investigate all those cases which were related to murder or rape/crime against women, due to which the CBI registered an FIR in this case.
Supreme Court shows the mirror
Supreme Court in its order recorded that the allegations in this case are so serious that they are shocking to the court. There is no doubt in this case that when the complainant approached Sadaipur police station for FIR, the station in-charge refused to register the FIR and said that he should leave the village to protect his family. This attitude of the police shows how much influence the accused have in their area and even on the police.
Supporting BJP proved costly
It is clear that the way the complainant's house was attacked on the day of elections, the sole motive behind it was to take revenge on him for supporting BJP. They were constantly terrorizing BJP supporters. The reprehensible manner in which they carried out the incident makes it clear that they want to subjugate the opposition supporters by any means. This brutal crime was nothing less than a serious attack on the roots of democracy.
