In a heartbreaking incident from Edavanna, Malappuram district, Kerala, a 44-year-old woman named Zainab passed away after a piece of cake got stuck in her throat. Zainab was eating cake with tea on May 29 when she suddenly began struggling to breathe. Despite being rushed to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital for emergency treatment, she succumbed to the complication the following day.
Zainab’s death cast a shadow over what was supposed to be a joyous occasion — the wedding of her only daughter Khairunnisa, scheduled for May 31. The family had been busy preparing for the celebrations, and Zainab was eagerly looking forward to her daughter’s big day.
Due to Zainab’s sudden illness, the wedding preparations were kept simple. Sadly, Zainab passed away on May 30, just a day before the planned ceremony. In a poignant moment, the funeral procession of the mother was held before Khairunnisa’s wedding procession (doli) could begin, marking a day filled with sorrow and loss for the family.
The tragic incident has left the family devastated, with the joyous anticipation of the wedding turning into mourning.
