UK: British Hindus Protest Outside Bangladesh High Commission, Chant Hanuman Chalisa Against Attacks on Minorities

A major protest took place outside the Bangladesh High Commission in London, where British Hindu groups raised their voice against the alleged rising violence and discrimination against minority communities in Bangladesh. The demonstrators demanded urgent international action to ensure justice and protection for Hindus and other minorities living in the country.

British Hindu Groups Launch “Justice for Hindus” Protest

Members of the Bengali Hindu Ideal Association (BHS UK) organized this peaceful demonstration. Support also came from several other Indian diaspora organisations present in the UK.

During the protest, participants held placards reading “Hindu Lives Matter” and recited Hanuman Chalisa as a symbolic act of unity and spiritual expression.

To spread awareness, a digital advertising van was deployed outside the embassy displaying statistics and reported incidents of persecution faced by Hindu minorities in Bangladesh.

Human Rights Concerns Raised

BHS UK shared in an official statement that a diverse gathering — including students, working professionals, senior citizens, and interfaith community leaders — joined the protest. Their collective demand was clear:

➡ Uphold minority rights
➡ Ensure accountability for human rights violations
➡ Provide international protection mechanisms

The organization urged the British government and global human rights agencies to intervene and ensure stricter monitoring of the situation.

Message to Bangladesh Government

Protestors appealed to the interim administration of Bangladesh, led by Mohammad Yunus, to:
• follow constitutional safeguards for minority protection
• launch transparent investigations into recent violent incidents
• take responsibility for ensuring safety and dignity of Hindu citizens

The protesters expressed that despite being an integral part of the country’s identity, Hindus in Bangladesh continue to face systematic discrimination.

Allegations of Violence and Persecution

The Bangladesh Association of Minorities (BHAS UK) stated that minority groups in Bangladesh have long struggled with:

  • hate-driven attacks

  • forcible displacement

  • killings

  • significant decline in population share

Two specific incidents were strongly condemned during the protest:

1️⃣ The controversial arrest of interfaith speaker Chinmay Prabhu
2️⃣ The brutal mob lynching of Deepu Chandra Das, who was wrongly accused of blasphemy — a charge later dismissed by authorities as baseless

India Expresses Concern

The protest comes at a time when international focus on Bangladesh’s internal situation is increasing.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs recently expressed serious concern over continuing hostility and attacks against Hindus, Christians, and Buddhists by extremist groups in the country.

Conclusion

The demonstration in London reflects growing anxiety among the global Hindu community about the safety of their counterparts in Bangladesh. The protestors emphasized that minority rights must be protected and urged the world to take notice before the situation worsens.
