According to reports, a nearly 40-year-old building collapsed at Satya Niketan, near Delhi University's South Campus, around 1:30 pm on Sunday. However, the building was not listed as dangerous in the records of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.

According to reports, demolition work had been underway in the basement of the building for the past seven days. The basement was already weak due to waterlogging. During the excavation, a pillar slipped, causing the entire building to collapse. Workers working there were also buried under the debris.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
According to reports, another building near the building has also been evacuated after cracks were noticed. There is a danger of this building collapsing while removing the debris. Following the accident, the police have registered a case under sections of culpable homicide and negligence. Delhi Mayor Parvesh Wahi has also ordered the immediate sealing of all illegal constructions with more than four floors. He said that the guilty officials will be dismissed. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has also ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
