Instagram Stories are one of the most popular ways to share photos, videos and updates. However, there are situations where users may want to control who can see their Stories or prevent certain people from accessing them.

Instagram provides several built-in privacy settings that allow you to control your Stories without having to make your entire account private.

Hide your Instagram Story from specific people

If you don't want a particular person to see your Story, you can hide your Stories from them.

To do this:

1. Open Instagram and go to your profile.

2. Tap the three-line menu in the top-right corner.

4. Go to Hide story and live.

Use Close Friends for selected Stories

Another useful option is Instagram's Close Friends feature.

Instead of sharing a Story with all your followers, you can create a Close Friends list and share certain Stories only with the people included on it.

When you post a Close Friends Story, it is visible only to the selected accounts.

Can you see someone's Story anonymously?

There is no official Instagram setting that allows you to view another person's Story completely anonymously.

Third-party websites and apps often claim that they can let you secretly view Stories. However, using such services can put your Instagram account and personal information at risk.

Some may ask for your Instagram username, password or other sensitive information. It is safer to avoid giving your login details to unofficial services.

Control who can reply to your Stories

Instagram also lets you control who can reply to your Stories.

You can adjust Story-related settings to limit replies to people you follow, your followers, or disable replies depending on the options available on your account.

This can help reduce unwanted messages and interactions.

Restricting someone is different from hiding your Story

Instagram's Restrict feature works differently from Story privacy controls.

When you restrict an account, their interactions with your profile are limited in several ways. For example, their comments can be handled differently and their messages may not appear in your main inbox in the same way.

If your only goal is to stop someone from viewing your Stories, hiding your Story is the more direct option.

Check your Story privacy settings regularly

Instagram frequently updates its privacy controls and introduces new options. It's therefore a good idea to check your settings occasionally, especially if you have recently changed your followers or switched between public and private accounts.

Using Instagram's built-in privacy features is safer than relying on third-party apps that promise secret viewing or special access.

The best way to maintain privacy on Instagram is to control your audience directly through the app rather than sharing your login information with external websites or applications.
