Kavya Maran’s SRH Forced to Compromise, Faces Lakhs in Matchday Losses

A settlement has been reached between the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), owned by Kavya Maran. As per the agreement, SRH will now provide 3,900 complimentary match passes to HCA for every home game, leading to a significant financial setback for the franchise. The loss is expected to run into lakhs of rupees per match.

SRH’s Attempt to Seek BCCI’s Intervention

Prior to the agreement, SRH had appealed to the BCCI and the IPL Governing Council, alleging that HCA was using coercive tactics to extract free tickets. The franchise even warned that they might shift their home matches to another venue if the issue persisted. However, the HCA denied any wrongdoing, leading to further discussions between both parties.

Agreement Reached After High-Level Meeting

To resolve the dispute, HCA Secretary R Devraj convened a meeting with SRH officials at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. The SRH delegation included representatives Kiran, Saravanan, and Rohit Suresh.

Joint Statement from HCA and SRH

Following the discussions, both parties released a joint statement confirming their agreement. The SRH franchise insisted on following the existing tripartite agreement between SRH, HCA, and BCCI, which mandates ticket allocations based on 10% of the stadium’s capacity. Meanwhile, HCA pushed to retain the existing practice of pass allocation, citing longstanding traditions. The agreement was finalized after thorough discussions with SRH CEO Shanmugam.
