In a major crackdown at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, customs officials seized marijuana estimated to be worth ₹6.5 crore. The incident took place on September 28, when two Indian nationals arrived from Bangkok on flight TG-323. Based on spot profiling and suspicion, customs officers diverted the suspects to a separate area for x-ray scanning of their luggage and personal search.

Upon inspection, officials discovered 13 black and transparent polythene packets containing a total of 6,554 grams of green narcotic substance, later confirmed as marijuana, concealed in one blue and one maroon trolley bag. The meticulous profiling and search operation prevented a significant amount of illegal drugs from entering the country.

Both individuals were promptly arrested and charged under several sections of the NDPS Act, 1985, including Section 8 (prohibition of certain operations), Section 20 (offenses related to cannabis), Section 23 (illegal import/export/transshipment), Section 29 (conspiracy), and Section 43(b) for seizure and arrest. The confiscated narcotic substance is now held as evidence as authorities pursue further legal action.

This successful interception highlights the vigilance of Delhi Customs and their commitment to combating drug smuggling at international entry points.
