No Train to Tirupati, So Man ‘Borrowed’ an RTC Bus! Drunk Driver’s 21-Km Highway Ride Ends at Toll Plaza

A bizarre incident from Telangana’s Jangaon district has left people surprised. A man who wanted to visit Tirupati but could not find a train allegedly took an unusual route—he drove away with a government bus and travelled nearly 21 kilometres before his journey came to an unexpected end.

According to police, the incident took place after the man failed to get a train from Jangaon railway station. In frustration, he allegedly took a parked Road Transport Corporation (RTC) bus from the local bus stand and drove it on the highway.

Desire to Reach Tirupati Led to Unusual Decision

The accused, identified as Venkanna, is a tractor driver from Chennuru village in Jangaon district. Police said he had visited the railway station multiple times hoping to find a train to Tirupati, but his attempts were unsuccessful.

Later, while allegedly under the influence of alcohol, he reached the Jangaon bus stand where an RTC hired bus was parked. Having experience driving tractors, he reportedly entered the driver’s seat and started the bus using tools he was carrying.

To avoid immediate suspicion, he first moved the bus around the stand before heading towards Suryapet Road.

Bus Ride Ends After Collision at Toll Plaza

Venkanna managed to drive the bus for around 21 kilometres until he reached the Singarajupalli toll plaza. However, his lack of experience handling a heavy vehicle and his intoxicated condition reportedly caused him to lose control.

The bus hit a toll divider. When he attempted to reverse, he reportedly collided again, creating suspicion among toll plaza workers.

Seeing the bus moving irregularly late at night, toll officials approached the driver and questioned him. They found his responses unclear and immediately informed the police.

Police Register Case, Accused Arrested

Police reached the spot and took Venkanna into custody. During the investigation, officials discovered that the bus had been taken from the Jangaon bus stand without permission.

According to police, Venkanna claimed that he did not intend to sell or permanently steal the bus and only wanted to use it to reach Tirupati. However, authorities registered a case related to bus theft and reckless driving.

Fortunately, no passengers or pedestrians were injured during the unusual midnight drive.

Final Thoughts

The incident has become a topic of discussion in the area due to the unusual reason behind the alleged crime. While the man’s desire to visit Tirupati led to the strange journey, police action followed because taking a government vehicle without permission is a serious offence.
