Indian captain Rohit Sharma fell just 27 runs short of reaching 20,000 runs in international cricket. He was dismissed for 14 in the second ODI in Raipur. Once he achieved this milestone, he would become the fourth Indian to do so after Sachin Tendulkar, Kohli, and Dravid.
Raipur: Former Indian captain Rohit Sharma missed out on achieving a major international record in the second ODI between India and South Africa being played at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium. Rohit Sharma was out for just 14 runs in this match and could not reach the historic milestone of completing 20,000 runs in international cricket.
Before the match, Rohit Sharma needed only 41 runs to achieve this feat. However, due to his early dismissal, he will now have to wait for the third and final ODI of the series to reach this figure. Rohit Sharma is now 27 runs away from this record. In such a situation, fans are hopeful that Rohit can achieve this record in the very next match.
Chance to become the fourth Indian
Had Rohit Sharma achieved this record, he would have become only the fourth Indian cricketer to reach 20,000 runs combined in all formats of international cricket (Test, ODI, and T20I). Before him, only legends Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Rahul Dravid have achieved this feat. Since making his debut in 2007, Rohit Sharma has scored 19,973 runs in 504 matches at an average of 42.46, including 50 centuries and 110 half-centuries.
Now all eyes are on the last match of the series
Rohit scored a brilliant 57 in the first ODI in Ranchi, breaking Shahid Afridi's record for most sixes in ODIs. His form has been impressive, but after the disappointment in Raipur, all eyes will be on the third and final match of the series, where he will attempt to join this elite club.
