Tata Motors is preparing to introduce a new compact sedan that could mark the end of the Tigor nameplate in the company's passenger-car lineup. The upcoming model, reportedly called the Tata Aeris, is expected to receive a major design and feature overhaul rather than being just another facelift.
Tata Motors has already released a teaser offering a glimpse of the upcoming sedan and has announced September 25, 2026, as its expected launch date. The final name, variants, specifications and pricing are expected to be revealed at the launch.
Tata Aeris Could Replace the Tigor
The Tata Tigor was introduced in India in 2017 and has received several updates over the years. The upcoming Aeris, however, is expected to bring more substantial changes to the compact sedan.
The new model is likely to be positioned as a more modern and premium offering in the segment. It will compete with popular compact sedans such as the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Aura and Honda Amaze.
Fresh Exterior Design Expected
The upcoming Tata Aeris is expected to feature a significantly updated exterior. Earlier patent images have reportedly offered clues about its possible design.
At the front, the sedan could receive a slimmer grille, redesigned bumper and updated lighting elements. LED headlamps and LED daytime running lights are also expected.
The side profile could retain the familiar notchback-inspired silhouette associated with the Tigor, while new alloy wheels may give the car a more contemporary appearance.
At the rear, the sedan could feature connected LED taillamps, a redesigned bumper and vertically positioned reflectors. The boot could also carry large AERIS lettering.
Feature-Rich Cabin Expected
The interior is also expected to receive a substantial update. The dashboard layout could take inspiration from the updated Tiago, while the car may get a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
Other expected features include a digital or semi-digital driver's display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, wireless charging, automatic climate control and rear AC vents.
The top-spec variant could also feature a 360-degree camera.
For safety, the expected equipment list includes six airbags, electronic stability control, ABS, hill-hold assist and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
However, the car's official crash-test rating has not yet been revealed, so its eventual safety rating cannot be confirmed at this stage.
Petrol and CNG Powertrain Options
The Tata Aeris is expected to continue with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, along with a factory-fitted CNG option.
Based on the powertrain currently used in the Tiago, the petrol version could produce around 86 PS and 113 Nm of torque, while the CNG version could generate approximately 76 PS and 97 Nm.
Transmission options are expected to include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT. However, these specifications are based on reported expectations, and Tata Motors is yet to confirm the final powertrain details.
Launch Date and Expected Price
The Tata Aeris is expected to make its debut on September 25, 2026. Its anticipated ex-showroom price could fall in the ₹6 lakh–₹10 lakh range.
Once launched, the sedan will enter competition with the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Aura and Honda Amaze.
Tata Motors is expected to reveal the final name, variants, features, engine specifications and pricing at the time of launch. Until then, the reported details should be treated as expected specifications rather than confirmed figures.
