The Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, which began on September 30, has completed its first 10 matches in 10 days. The 10th match, played on October 9 in Visakhapatnam, saw South Africa defeat India by three wickets. Although this victory helped South Africa climb up the standings, it wasn’t enough to push them ahead of India in the points table.
South Africa Behind India Despite Victory
South Africa’s win improved their points and net run rate, but not sufficiently to surpass India. After the 10th match, England continues to top the table, followed by Australia in second place and India in third. South Africa, with their latest win, have moved up to the fourth position.
Why India Still Leads South Africa
Both India and South Africa have played three matches each, winning two and losing one, giving both teams four points. However, India’s net run rate (NRR) of +0.959 keeps them ahead of South Africa, whose NRR stands at –0.888. This difference in NRR has kept India above South Africa despite the recent result.
Pakistan on the Brink of Exit
The Pakistan women’s team finds itself at the bottom of the table, having lost all three of their matches so far. With zero points, their chances of qualifying for the next stage look bleak.
Pakistan’s next fixture against New Zealand is crucial. However, New Zealand, who have lost both their opening games, are expected to come back strongly in search of their first win. A defeat against New Zealand could effectively knock Pakistan out of the tournament.
