There's a very important update for all bank customers. The middle class may face difficulties as new bank rules are coming into effect on October 1st. You'll now have to pay a fee to withdraw your cash. Banks have changed their cash withdrawal rules, which will take effect on October 1st, 2026.
Under the new rules, you'll get four free withdrawals per month. After that, the bank will charge you an extra ₹15 plus GST for each withdrawal you make.
SBI has now changed the rule.
Previously, digital transactions like online payments were not counted towards these four free withdrawals. However, SBI has now changed this rule. Once you've exhausted your four free withdrawals, the bank will charge a fee for withdrawals from both digital channels and bank branches.
Who does this apply to?
But don't worry, this charge doesn't apply to Basic Savings Accounts. The bank created these accounts for poor and low-income individuals. SBI doesn't charge any fees to open this account, and you don't need to maintain a minimum balance. You get a free RuPay ATM-cum-debit card, but no checkbook.
What you need to know?
The most important requirement for opening a Basic Savings Account with SBI is that you cannot hold any other savings account with the bank. Therefore, if you have a Basic Account, you are protected from these charges. However, these charges will apply to regular savings accounts. For more details, always consult the bank's official notification.
