Not every film manages to succeed at the box office, and recent releases have once again proven this reality. Two much-discussed films—O Romeo starring Shahid Kapoor and Tripti Dimri, and Do Deewane Seher Mein featuring Mrunal Thakur and Siddhant Chaturvedi—have failed to meet expectations and are now heading toward commercial disappointment.
‘O Romeo’ Struggles Despite Big Budget and Buzz
Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, O Romeo was mounted on a massive reported budget of around ₹150 crore. The film generated decent pre-release buzz, and industry expectations were high due to Shahid Kapoor’s past box office success.
However, the film underperformed right from its opening week, collecting only ₹47 crore at the domestic box office in its first seven days. The second week also failed to bring any turnaround. Despite the absence of major competing releases, the film earned approximately ₹2.15 crore on Friday, ₹3.4 crore on Saturday, ₹3.15 crore on Sunday, and about ₹1.65 crore on Monday.
After 11 days, O Romeo has collected roughly ₹57.45 crore in India, while its worldwide collection stands at around ₹88.85 crore in 10 days. With these numbers, the film is still nearly ₹62 crore short of its production cost, making recovery highly unlikely.
‘Do Deewane Seher Mein’ Fails to Gain Momentum
In comparison, Do Deewane Seher Mein, directed by Ravi Udyawar, was made on a much smaller budget of approximately ₹30 crore. Despite modest expectations, the romantic drama failed to connect with audiences.
The film opened with a collection of ₹1.25 crore on its first day, followed by ₹1.5 crore on Saturday. Earnings dropped to ₹1.45 crore on Sunday, and on Monday the film witnessed a sharp fall, earning only ₹0.65 crore. This brings its total collection to around ₹4.86 crore in four days.
Given the weak trend and limited audience interest, the film appears unlikely to even recover its modest budget.
Conclusion
Both O Romeo and Do Deewane Seher Mein highlight the unpredictable nature of the box office. While one struggled despite star power and a large budget, the other failed to find footing even with lower expectations. At their current pace, neither film seems capable of turning its fortunes around.
