Devuthani Ekadashi 2025: Auspicious Weddings to Begin 20 Days Later, Know How Many Marriage Dates Are Left This Year and in 2026

Devuthani Ekadashi, also known as Prabodhini Ekadashi, marks a highly auspicious day in the Hindu calendar when Lord Vishnu awakens from his four-month-long yog nidra (divine sleep). With his awakening, the sacred Chaturmas period — during which all auspicious ceremonies are paused — comes to an end. From this day onward, rituals like weddings, housewarmings, and tonsure ceremonies can be performed. In 2025, Devuthani Ekadashi will fall on November 1, symbolizing the start of the wedding season.

However, this year, marriages will not take place immediately after Devuthani Ekadashi. Instead, the first wedding muhurat will begin 20 days later, on November 21. The reason for this delay lies in planetary positions. On Devuthani Ekadashi, the Sun (Surya Dev) will be in Libra, the zodiac ruled by Venus (Shukra), and according to astrological rules, auspicious marriage ceremonies cannot be held until the Sun changes position. Hence, the wedding season will officially begin on November 21, 2025.

This year, there will be only 11 auspicious days left for marriages after Devuthani Ekadashi. In contrast, the year 2026 will have significantly more wedding dates due to the presence of an extra month (Adhik Maas), resulting in 13 months in the lunar calendar. Additionally, there will be two Jyeshtha months, making 2026 a favorable year with 81 auspicious marriage muhurats. However, it’s worth noting that January 2026 will have no marriage dates because Venus will be in a set (non-auspicious) phase.
