There's great news for millions of employees across the country. The central government has finally approved an interest rate of 8.25% for the financial year 2025-26 for members of the Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO). Following the Finance Ministry's approval, the process of directly depositing PF interest money into employees' accounts has begun. This will directly benefit more than 70 million employees across the country. The interest amount will be credited to their accounts starting today. NDTV reported this news, citing sources.
When and how will the interest be credited?
After receiving approval from the Central Government's Finance Ministry, the EPFO has begun the process of transferring interest payments directly to members' accounts through its new digital system. This money will begin being deposited into the accounts of over 70 million employees across the country starting today. It may take a few days for this amount to appear in everyone's passbook. According to officials, the process of crediting interest to all PF members' accounts will be completed within the next 15 days. All PF account holders will receive interest at the rate of 8.25%.
How much interest will you get?
The government has decided to provide interest at the rate of 8.25% for the year 2025-26. Those with a total of ₹10 lakh in their PF accounts as of March 31, 2026, will receive ₹82,500 at the rate of 8.25%. Those with ₹20 lakh in their PF accounts will receive a lump sum of ₹1.65 lakh as interest. Those with ₹5 lakh in their accounts will also receive ₹41,250.
Interest on a PF account is calculated based on the monthly current balance and is then credited to the account at the end of each financial year, i.e., March 31st.
How to check your PF balance?
EPFO Portal: By visiting epfindia.gov.in and logging into 'Member Passbook'.
Umang App: By selecting EPFO Services in the Umang App on mobile.
Missed Call: By giving a missed call to 9966044425 from registered mobile number.
SMS Service: Send EPFOHO UAN MAR to 7738299899 (ending with MAR will provide information in Marathi)
