IND vs WI: John Campbell Becomes 61st West Indies Player to Score 1,000 Test Runs

Despite West Indies’ poor display with the bat in the first Test against India at Ahmedabad, opener John Campbell etched his name into the record books. Campbell, who scored just 8 runs in the first innings, reached a personal milestone by completing 1,000 runs in Test cricket, becoming the 61st West Indian batsman to do so.

Reaches Milestone with 8 Runs

Opening alongside Tejnarayan Chanderpaul, Campbell managed only 8 runs before being dismissed. However, those runs carried special weight, as he had entered the match with 996 Test runs. With his short stay at the crease, he crossed the 1,000-run landmark. At the fall of his wicket, his tally stood at 1002 runs.

Career Record So Far

  • Matches: 24

  • Innings: 47

  • Total Runs: 1002

  • Half-Centuries: 3

  • Highest Score: 68

Campbell achieved the feat in his 24th Test and 47th innings. While he is yet to score a Test century, his consistency over the years has now brought him into an elite list of West Indies Test cricketers.

61st West Indian to the Mark

John Campbell is now the 61st batsman from the Caribbean to reach the 1,000-runs milestone in Test cricket. For the West Indies, where legends like Brian Lara, Viv Richards, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, and Sir Garry Sobers top the charts with thousands of runs, Campbell’s entry into the list is considered a respectable achievement, especially for an opener who has faced stiff competition and conditions.
