To ensure uninterrupted supply of LPG cylinders amid the disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, the central government recently took several steps. One notable initiative was requiring Know Your Customer (KYC) verification for consumers purchasing subsidized LPG cylinders. Now, the government has further tightened the rules. According to the new directive, consumers who
fail to complete biometric authentication by the stipulated deadline will continue to receive LPG cylinder deliveries, but their subsidy programs will be suspended.
Who will get LPG subsidy after June 30?
Consumers who fail to complete biometric Aadhaar authentication by the June 30th deadline will continue to receive LPG cylinder deliveries without interruption. However, subsidy payments under the DBTL-PAHAL scheme and other government subsidies will be stopped until the authentication process is completed. The government has also clarified that any subsidy amount lost due to non-compliance will not be refunded retrospectively. Consumers who complete the verification after the deadline will be eligible for subsidy only on future LPG refills.
What has the government asked oil companies to do?
The central government has asked Indian Oil, BPCL, and HPCL to identify and inform LPG consumers who have not completed Aadhaar-based biometric verification. This move is aimed at ensuring that subsidies reach the rightful beneficiaries and preventing misuse.
Who will be affected?
Under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), eligible households receive a subsidy of ₹300 per LPG refill. Other eligible consumers also receive the subsidy directly into their bank accounts. Consumers who do not complete biometric verification by June 30 may continue to receive LPG cylinders, but their subsidy will be discontinued. If verification is completed after the deadline, the subsidy will only be available on future refills.
