Make Chyawanprash at Home This Winter: A Natural Recipe to Keep Your Body Warm and Strengthen Immunity

Winter has arrived, and with the drop in temperature, it becomes essential to protect the body from colds, coughs, and seasonal infections. Ayurveda recommends several ways to boost immunity during this time, and one of the most trusted is Chyawanprash. More than just a tonic, it is a traditional Ayurvedic formulation rich in herbs, spices, and nutrients. It strengthens the body from within and helps prevent seasonal illnesses.

Although many brands of Chyawanprash are available in the market, they often contain preservatives and excess sugar. Preparing it at home ensures purity, better taste, and superior nutrition. Here is an easy method to make natural Chyawanprash at home.

Ingredients for 1 kg Chyawanprash
Amla – 1 kg
Ghee – 200 g
Honey – 250 g
Jaggery or sugar – 500 g
Spice and herb mix:
Pippali – 5 g
Cinnamon – 5 g
Green cardamom – 5 g
Bay leaves – 2–3
Nagkesar – 2 g
Licorice – 10 g
Ashwagandha – 10 g
Shatavari – 10 g
Vidarikand – 10 g
Cloves – 2–3
Black pepper – 5 g
Dry ginger – 5 g
Sesame oil – 1 tsp

Method of Preparation

Step 1: Prepare the Amla Paste
Wash and dry the amla. Boil them in water until soft. Once cooled, remove the seeds and grind the pulp into a paste. Heat a little ghee in a pan and cook the amla paste on low heat. Stir continuously to prevent sticking. Once the paste darkens and ghee begins to separate, turn off the flame.

Step 2: Make the Jaggery or Sugar Syrup
In another pan, add jaggery or sugar with some water. Heat it until a one-string syrup forms. Pour this syrup into the cooked amla paste and mix thoroughly.

Step 3: Add the Herbs
Grind all the herbs into a fine powder. Add the remaining ghee and one teaspoon of sesame oil to the amla mixture. Cook on low heat, stirring continuously, until the mixture becomes thick, aromatic, and sticky. Allow it to cool completely. Finally, add honey and mix well. Store the Chyawanprash in a clean glass jar.

How to Consume
Adults can take 1–2 teaspoons daily, ideally on an empty stomach or along with milk. Children can take ½ teaspoon with warm water or milk. Regular consumption during winter helps maintain warmth and prevents infections.
