Maruti Suzuki's entry into the electric vehicle segment is off to a strong start. The company's first all-electric SUV, the e-Vitara, has witnessed an impressive response from buyers, setting new sales milestones within just a few months of its launch in India. The growing demand suggests that the SUV is quickly becoming one of the most talked-about EVs in the market.
Strong Sales Performance in 2026
Between January and May 2026, Maruti Suzuki recorded wholesale sales of over 7,097 units of the e-Vitara across the country. During the same period, the company sold around 8.79 lakh passenger vehicles, with the e-Vitara contributing nearly 0.80% of the total sales. Among Maruti's SUV lineup, the electric SUV accounted for roughly 2% of total SUV sales.
The company dispatched 1,439 units to dealerships in May 2026, while March recorded the highest monthly wholesale volume, with 2,254 units shipped.
Customer Deliveries Continue to Rise
Retail demand has also shown steady growth. According to government vehicle registration data, 4,450 customers took delivery of the e-Vitara between January and May 2026.
Monthly retail deliveries were as follows:
-
January: 224 units
-
February: 227 units
-
March: 1,008 units
-
April: 1,333 units
-
May: 1,658 units
The consistent month-on-month increase highlights the rising popularity of Maruti's first electric SUV among Indian buyers.
Rivals in the Electric SUV Segment
The e-Vitara competes with several popular electric SUVs in the Indian market, including the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, Tata Curvv EV, and the upcoming Tata Sierra EV.
Built on the same platform as Toyota's electric SUV, the e-Vitara is offered in three variants.
Battery, Range and Performance
The SUV comes with two battery pack options:
-
Delta (49 kWh): Claimed driving range of up to 543 km on a single charge.
-
Zeta (61 kWh) and Alpha (61 kWh): Offer a claimed range of around 440 km.
In India, the e-Vitara is currently available only with a front-wheel-drive (FWD) setup, while an all-wheel-drive (AWD) version is available in select international markets.
Price and Battery Subscription Option
The Maruti e-Vitara is priced between ₹15.99 lakh and ₹19.79 lakh (ex-showroom).
To make EV ownership more affordable, the company also offers a battery subscription model. Under this plan, customers can purchase the vehicle without the battery, bringing the starting price down to ₹10.99 lakh. The battery is then provided on a pay-per-kilometre subscription basis through a monthly usage fee.
Maruti Suzuki offers an 8-year or 1.6 lakh km warranty on the battery pack. The SUV comes with a 3-year standard vehicle warranty, which can be extended up to 8 years at an additional cost.
Final Take
With rising customer deliveries, competitive pricing, flexible ownership options, and strong claimed driving ranges, the Maruti e-Vitara has made a promising start in India's electric SUV market. As demand for EVs continues to grow, the company's first electric offering appears to be gaining momentum among both domestic buyers and global markets.
