Nepal’s Karan KC Banned After Controversial Post, Historic T20I Bowler Faces Action

Karan KC, known for creating a unique record in T20 Internationals, has landed in trouble after a controversial social media post led to disciplinary action. The bowler, who became the first player to take a wicket on the very first ball three times in T20Is, has now been banned for one match and fined 100 percent of his match fee.

The incident took place during the Prime Minister’s Cup One Day National Cricket Tournament in Nepal on April 11. During the tournament, Karan KC shared a post on social media questioning what would happen if a player accidentally hit an umpire during a match. The post quickly sparked backlash, with match officials, including umpires and scorers, expressing strong objections.

Following the controversy, an emergency meeting was called by officials, who demanded strict action against the player. Although Karan KC deleted the post and issued an apology, the authorities deemed it insufficient given the sensitivity of the issue. The Cricket Association of Nepal subsequently decided to impose a one-match ban along with a financial penalty.

Despite this setback, Karan KC’s on-field achievements remain remarkable. In 2024, he made history by becoming the first bowler in T20 International cricket to take a wicket on the opening delivery of an innings on three separate occasions, achieving this feat against teams like Hong Kong national cricket team and Malaysia national cricket team.

The incident serves as a reminder of how off-field actions, especially on social media, can have serious consequences for professional athletes, regardless of their achievements on the field.
