After completing his post-PhD research in 2024, Ding applied to company after company for a job. He sent in numerous CVs. He was also invited for more than 10 interviews. But ultimately, he didn't receive a job offer from any company.

After waiting for a long time, Ding finally gave up. To pay off his debt and support his family, he started working as a food delivery worker in Singapore. Initially, he had to work 10 hours a day.
