Stay Healthy This Winter: Make and Store This Special Tea Masala for Taste and Immunity

In the winter season, when the body needs extra warmth and energy, a cup of masala chai can do wonders. It’s not just a comforting drink for cold mornings and evenings — it also strengthens immunity and protects against common winter illnesses. The spices used in masala chai are naturally warming and medicinal, making it an ideal drink to prevent frequent colds, coughs, and throat infections.

Once prepared, this tea masala can be stored and used throughout the winter. It saves time and adds a rich aroma and flavor to every cup. Instead of using market-made masalas, preparing it at home ensures purity and health benefits.

Ingredients needed
To prepare this winter tea masala, gather the following:
• 100 g dried ginger
• 50 g green cardamom
• 50 g black pepper
• 25 g cinnamon
• 25 g cloves
• 25 g fennel
• Half teaspoon nutmeg powder or half a whole nutmeg
• 12–15 basil (tulsi) leaves
• 1 teaspoon dried rose petals (optional, for aroma)

How to prepare the tea masala

  1. Break the dried ginger into small pieces so it grinds easily.

  2. Heat a pan on medium flame and roast the dried ginger until all moisture evaporates. Set aside to cool.

  3. In the same pan, roast cloves, black pepper, and cardamom.

  4. Add cinnamon and fennel, and roast them lightly.

  5. Next, lightly roast the basil leaves. Add the rose petals and give them a quick roast as well.

  6. Spread all the roasted spices on a plate and let them cool completely.

  7. Grind the dried ginger first until it becomes a fine powder.

  8. Grind the rest of the roasted spices in the mixer.

  9. Mix both powders together, add nutmeg powder, and grind once more to blend everything uniformly.
