Tata Punch Emerges as Bestseller, Drives Record Sales for Tata Motors in March 2026

Tata Motors has reported a stellar performance in March 2026, recording total sales of 66,192 units—an impressive 28.24% increase compared to 51,616 units sold in the same month last year. The surge was largely driven by strong demand in the SUV segment, with the Tata Punch leading the charge.

Punch Outshines Nexon and Sierra
Tata’s most affordable SUV, the Punch (including EV), emerged as the top-selling model for the company. With 20,977 units sold in March, it registered an 18.42% year-on-year growth and an 11.89% increase over February. Starting at an ex-showroom price of ₹5.64 lakh, the Punch continues to dominate the entry-level SUV space, outperforming even established models like the Nexon and the newly introduced Sierra.

Nexon Maintains Strong Momentum
The Tata Nexon (including EV) secured the second position with sales of 19,810 units, marking a 21.04% year-on-year growth. Although its month-on-month growth was modest at 1.96%, the Nexon remains one of Tata’s most consistent performers. Combined, the Punch and Nexon contributed nearly 41,000 units, accounting for a significant share of the company’s overall sales.

Sierra Makes an Impressive Debut
The all-new Tata Sierra delivered a strong performance, with 9,003 units sold in March. The model recorded a notable 26.80% growth compared to February, indicating rising consumer interest and a promising start in the market.

Other SUV and Hatchback Performance
The Tata Harrier (including EV) witnessed a remarkable 123.40% year-on-year growth, with sales rising to 2,826 units. However, it saw a slight month-on-month dip of 8.72%. Meanwhile, the Tata Safari recorded sales of 1,530 units, reflecting an 8.13% annual growth but a 7.27% decline compared to the previous month.

In the hatchback category, the Tata Altroz stood out with 2,344 units sold, posting a strong 41.38% year-on-year and 13.62% month-on-month growth. On the other hand, the Tata Tiago (including EV) saw a 10.41% annual decline with 7,119 units sold, while the Tata Tigor (including EV) experienced a sharper drop, falling 33.13% year-on-year to 981 units—highlighting weakening demand in the sedan segment.

SUV Strategy Paying Off
The latest sales figures underline Tata Motors’ successful focus on SUVs, which continue to drive growth and market share. With the Punch leading the entry-level segment and models like Nexon and Sierra maintaining strong demand, Tata Motors is reinforcing its position as a key player in India’s competitive automotive market.
