Donald Trump-Asim Munir Meeting: Pakistan, which was defeated by India in Operation Sindoor, has now reached the limit of flattery. Operation Sindoor has taken away Asim Munir's sleep. The fear of India's Brahmos tormented him so much that Mullah Munir started pleading for a ceasefire. Now Asim Munir has crossed the limit of flattery to have lunch with Donald Trump and get a photo clicked. Yes, Asim Munir has played the Nobel trick to have lunch with Trump. Asim Munir has even appealed to Donald Trump to file a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Actually, Asim Munir is currently in America. US President Donald Trump hosted Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir at the White House on Wednesday. Asim Munir met President Trump over lunch at the White House. This meeting of Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir with Trump took place a few weeks after the four-day military conflict between India and Pakistan.
Lunch after the flattery
Sources say that Donald Trump invited Asim Munir for lunch only when the Pak Army Chief appealed to nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. A statement issued by the White House said that the lunch between Donald Trump and General Asim Munir was planned when Munir appealed to nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. Advocating for giving this honor to Trump, Munir claimed that Trump played an important role in averting a nuclear war between India and Pakistan during his tenure. Soon after this alleged initiative, Trump's team invited him for a private lunch.
There was also talk about Iran
On Iran, sources say that the closed-door meeting took place amid rising tensions between Israel and Iran, in which Trump is considering Washington's possible participation. The Pakistani Army Chief is also believed to have spoken in favor of Iran. Islamabad is known for its close ties with Tehran. In fact, Donald Trump returned to Washington on Tuesday morning, cutting short his trip to Kananiskis, Canada for the G7 summit amid rising tensions in West Asia due to the Israel-Iran war. Interestingly, during a phone conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Trump asked him if he could stop over in the US while returning from Canada.
Why is this a rare sign
This invitation to Asim Munir is being considered a rare gesture from the US to a serving Pakistani army chief. There have been many instances of such invitations to Pakistani army chiefs like Ayub Khan, Zia ul-Haq and Pervez Musharraf, but they were also in the post of President. India launched 'Operation Sindoor' late on May 6 in response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and its illegally occupied Kashmir. After this, there were fierce clashes between the two countries for four days, which ended on May 10 with an agreement to stop military action. New Delhi says that due to India's fierce counter-attack that day, Pakistan had to appeal to end the hostilities. Asim Munir was promoted to the rank of Field Marshal by the Pakistan government last month and this status has been given to an army officer for the first time since Ayub Khan in 1959.
