UPI Payment: Now you will have to wait for UPI payments of more than Rs 10,000, what is the big decision of RBI?

The Reserve Bank of India has taken some major steps to prevent online fraud in the country. The central bank has begun work on five secure points. Of course, this is just a proposal. This new rule will now increase the time it takes for payments to be processed. It will take up to an hour for the recipient to receive the payment. This rule is being implemented for security reasons. Therefore, many people are saying that this rule is good, while others have ignored this change.

Why is the rule needed?

Understand the need for this rule in advance. According to the National Cyber Crime Report, 2.8 million cases of digital fraud were reported in 2025. Approximately ₹22,931 were stolen from the accounts of ordinary citizens. This theft has drawn the attention of banks. The thieves committed this heist on amounts exceeding ₹10,000. Therefore, while simultaneously promoting digital payments, the central bank has also become increasingly vigilant about security.

What is that master plan?

Now, according to the new features, if a user believes they have been scammed, they can immediately disable digital payment methods with a single click. This process can take up to an hour. UPI, net banking, and cards can be secured with a single click.

Now, payments over ₹10,000 can take up to an hour. For example, if a payment of ₹12,000 is made, the funds will be diverted from the account. However, they won't be credited to another bank account immediately. This used to take an hour. If the account is a fraud or a ruse by cyber criminals, it will be identified and your hard-earned money will be saved.

The RBI has launched a major campaign to seize the accounts of cyber criminals. If excessive amounts of money begin flowing into someone's account, that account will be closely monitored. Additionally, the account holder will be investigated. If the account holder's eKYC does not match, such accounts will be closed and strict action will be taken against the individual involved.
