Vaibhav Suryavanshi backs his bold words: Story from before IPL debut resurfaces

Young cricket sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi continues to capture attention with his fearless approach to the game. The teenage prodigy, who made headlines after becoming the youngest player to debut in the Indian Premier League, had already hinted at his aggressive intent even before stepping onto the field.

A fearless debut in IPL

Suryavanshi made his debut for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League 2025 season after being purchased for ₹1.10 crore in the mega auction. At just 14 years of age, he became the youngest cricketer to play in the league.

The young opener stunned fans by smashing a six off the very first delivery he faced against the Lucknow Super Giants, displaying remarkable confidence and composure on the biggest stage of franchise cricket.

His fearless style soon made him a talking point across the cricketing world. Suryavanshi later strengthened his reputation by playing a crucial role in India’s triumph at the ICC Under‑19 Cricket World Cup 2026.

Sanju Samson reveals a humorous incident

A light-hearted moment related to Suryavanshi recently surfaced during the BCCI Naman Awards held in New Delhi.

Former Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson shared an amusing anecdote involving Suryavanshi that left the audience in splits. The stage also featured Hardik Pandya and Abhishek Sharma.

Samson recalled how legendary coach Rahul Dravid had asked the youngster about his strategy ahead of his IPL debut. According to Samson, Dravid asked, “Vaibhav, what’s your plan?”

Suryavanshi reportedly responded casually, saying: “Sir, nothing like that… we’ll just play. If we get the first ball, we’ll blow it away.”

Samson humorously recreated the moment on stage by mimicking Suryavanshi’s style and tone, drawing loud laughter from the audience — including Dravid himself.

Promise fulfilled on the field

What made the story even more remarkable is that Suryavanshi actually delivered on his words. On debut, he launched the first ball he faced from Shardul Thakur for a towering six over cover.

The youngster later produced another memorable performance by smashing a blistering 101 runs off just 38 balls against the Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

Aiming for bigger records

During the same awards ceremony, Suryavanshi also spoke about his ambitions for the upcoming IPL season. The young batter said his primary focus remains helping his team lift the trophy.

However, he also revealed a personal dream — to break the record for the highest individual score in IPL history. That record is currently held by West Indies legend Chris Gayle, who scored an astonishing 175 runs for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors India during the Indian Premier League 2013 season.

With his fearless attitude and remarkable talent at such a young age, Suryavanshi appears determined to turn bold words into reality once again.
