Volkswagen Tigun Facelift Set to Challenge Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos

German automaker Volkswagen is preparing to launch an updated version of its Tigun SUV in India on April 9, 2026, signaling a renewed push in the competitive mid-size SUV segment. Volkswagen has released a teaser of the new model, showcasing subtle exterior refinements and enhanced interiors aimed at attracting urban buyers.

Design and Features

The Tigun’s exterior will see minor changes, including new LED lighting, refreshed bumpers, and redesigned alloy wheels. Premium variants could gain features such as a panoramic sunroof and rear seat massage, while base variants may now include amenities like a single-pane sunroof and rear washer-wiper as standard.

Inside, the facelifted Tigun is expected to receive significant upgrades, including a larger touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, and improved ambient lighting, all aimed at providing a more premium and comfortable cabin experience.

Engine and Performance

The engine lineup remains largely unchanged. The 1.0-liter TSI petrol engine (115hp) will continue with a 6-speed manual, while the 6-speed automatic may be replaced by a new 8-speed automatic. The 1.5-liter TSI (150hp) will still offer both a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG automatic. Fuel efficiency is expected to improve slightly from the current 18.15–19.87 kmpl range.

Market Context

The Tigun was first launched in September 2021 as part of Volkswagen’s India 2.0 strategy. Current prices range from ₹10.6 lakh to ₹19.2 lakh (ex-showroom). With growing competition from the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, and the increasing availability of hybrid and feature-rich SUVs, Volkswagen aims to strengthen its position by offering updated features and a more premium driving experience.

This facelift is seen as a critical step for Volkswagen to maintain relevance in India’s fast-evolving mid-size SUV segment, where buyer preferences are shifting rapidly towards technology and comfort.
