The ongoing investigation into the death of Haryana IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar has taken a more dramatic turn after another officer, ASI Sandeep Lathar of the Rohtak police cyber cell, died by suicide and left behind a three-page note with shocking claims. In this suicide note, Sandeep directly accused IPS officer Puran Kumar of deep corruption and caste-based favoritism.

Allegations of a 50 Crore Deal

Sandeep Lathar’s note alleges that IPS Puran Kumar made a deal worth ₹50 crore to shield politician Rao Indrajit in a high-profile Sadar police station murder case. According to Sandeep, Puran boasted about his extensive political connections and often cited his influence to escape consequences, even claiming the protection of his wife (an IAS officer), his brother-in-law (an MLA), and links to the Scheduled Castes Commission.

Accusations of Casteism and Corruption

In the note, Sandeep laid out a series of allegations: he wrote that after being transferred to the Rohtak Range, Puran posted corrupt officers from his own caste to key positions in the IG’s office while marginalizing upright officers. He also claimed that Puran extorted money from people under the guise of “file clearance” and abused his power by harassing them with unnecessary summons. Sandeep accused Puran of exploiting caste-based power structures and political connections to maintain his hold on the system.

Praise for Haryana’s DGP

Sandeep’s suicide note contrasts his criticism of Puran with praise for the current DGP of Haryana, describing him as honest and committed to fighting corruption, and noting that there were still a few sincere officers in the service.

It is noteworthy that prior to his own death, IPS Puran Kumar had written a suicide note alleging caste-based oppression from higher officials, including the DGP and Chief Secretary, which now forms a complicated web of accusations within the Haryana police force.
