A new turn in Kerala’s political and ideological landscape came on October 1st, when former Kerala Director General of Police (DGP) Jacob Thomas formally joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as a full-time pracharak. Dressed in the RSS uniform, he attended the Vijayadashami function in Pallikara, marking his official induction into the Sangh during its centenary year celebrations.

Speaking at the event, Thomas said that the RSS seeks to create “culturally strong individuals” who, in turn, will help build a stronger nation. Stressing that the organization practices no discrimination based on caste, religion, or language, he added that its only aim is the country’s unity and progress.

A Growing Trend Among Kerala Police Officers

Jacob Thomas, who previously headed the Kerala Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau and joined the BJP in 2021, is not the first police chief to gravitate toward the Sangh Parivar. Former Kerala DGPs T.P. Senkumar and R. Sreelekha have also made similar moves in recent years, reflecting what observers call a pattern of high-profile police officials aligning with the RSS-BJP fold after retirement.

RSS at 100 Years

Thomas’s induction coincided with a landmark moment for the Sangh. Founded on Vijayadashami in 1925, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh marked its centenary this year on October 2nd. To commemorate the occasion, a grand celebration was organized at the RSS headquarters in Nagpur, attended by senior leaders and more than 20,000 volunteers from across the country.
