Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced major preparations for Chhath Puja in Delhi, promising a grand and environmentally conscious celebration this year. Addressing a press conference, she said her government has lifted the earlier ban on performing Chhath Puja at the Yamuna Ghats—a restriction imposed during the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s tenure.

Rekha Gupta revealed that from Palla to Kalindi, 17 locations have been identified for the construction of model Chhath ghats, where devotees can perform rituals in a safe and well-managed environment. She emphasized that this year’s celebrations will be on a larger scale than ever before, with over 1,000 applications received for organizing Chhath events compared to 929 last year.

The Chief Minister also assured that the government will provide full logistical and public support, including clean water, tea for devotees, welcome gates, cultural programs, and dedicated medical facilities at each major ghat. At least one model Chhath Ghat will be established in every district of Delhi.

Rekha Gupta further announced that cases filed under Section 188 during the previous government—against people who performed Chhath Puja on the Yamuna in 2021—will be withdrawn.

Speaking about Delhi’s air quality, she noted a significant drop in pollution levels this year compared to previous years. “Even with firecrackers being allowed, people celebrated Diwali responsibly, and pollution levels have still gone down,” she said, asserting that her government’s environmental policies are yielding results.
