Unemployment, Domestic Strife Lead to Double Tragedy in Himachal’s Chamba

A shocking incident has shaken the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, where a man allegedly killed his wife following a domestic dispute and later died by suicide. The incident, which occurred in Lothal village of the Bharmour subdivision, has left the local community in deep shock.

According to police, the accused, identified as Sarwan Kumar, was unemployed and reportedly distressed over ongoing family issues. His wife was the sole earner of the household, supporting the family by working as a laborer and by transporting goods with horses and mules. Villagers said this imbalance often led to arguments, and there were past instances of domestic violence.

On Tuesday evening, the couple had visited the husband’s brother’s house and returned home late at night. Later, an argument broke out between them, which escalated into violence. Early Wednesday morning, villagers discovered both husband and wife dead inside the house. The couple is survived by three children, including a 17-year-old son.

Police officials stated that preliminary investigations suggest the man was mentally disturbed and had previously attempted to take his own life. Upon receiving information, the police reached the spot, secured the area, and sent both bodies for postmortem examination. A forensic team was also called in to collect evidence.
