After Seeking Forgiveness, Son-in-Law Drugs In-Laws and Flees With Jewellery Worth ₹2 Crore

A shocking case of betrayal has emerged from the Kaipatla locality of Nahtaur, where a man allegedly drugged his wife and in-laws before fleeing with gold and silver worth nearly ₹2 crore.

According to police, the accused son-in-law, Naveen, had been living at his in-laws’ house after seeking forgiveness for past mistakes. His father-in-law, Santosh Verma, reportedly allowed him back into the home eight days ago, believing he would support his only daughter, who is deaf and mute.

Police said Naveen had earlier been expelled from the house around two months ago due to his drug addiction. However, aware of where valuables were kept, he allegedly returned with a plan. On the night of Wednesday, February 25, he is accused of mixing intoxicants into food and beverages served to his wife and in-laws.

Once all family members became unconscious, Naveen allegedly broke open cupboards and safes, escaping with approximately half a kilogram of gold jewellery—including chains, bangles, and 26 rings—and nearly 40 kilograms of silver. Santosh Verma has estimated the total value of the stolen items at around ₹2 crore.

The family regained consciousness the following morning to find Naveen missing and the house ransacked. Police were informed immediately, and senior officials reached the spot to begin an investigation.

Police teams have registered a case and launched raids at possible locations. The accused remains absconding. Meanwhile, Naveen’s wife is reportedly in deep shock over the incident.

Police said efforts are underway to trace the accused and recover the stolen property.
