CCTV cameras of the area are being scanned.

The stolen cannon was installed at the gate of the old tehsil of Neemuch, currently the Home Guard office. According to media reports, this cannon made of zinc, copper, brass, and precious metals was stolen 2-3 days after Rakshabandhan. There were two cannons installed at the gate. There is panic in the district administration after one cannon was stolen. People are discussing that when a cannon can be stolen from such a well-secured place, then how are they safe?

The cannon is several years old

District SP Ankit Jaiswal says that the accused of stealing the cannon will be arrested soon. A team has been formed to uncover the incident. The police came to know about the case when Amardeep Upadhyay, an aware person in the city, gave a complaint letter to the collector and informed them about the missing cannon. A case of theft was registered with the police and an investigation was started. The stolen cannon is many years old and was deployed during the British rule.

Cannons were deployed to protect the city

According to historians, Neemuch city used to be a part of Gwalior state. It developed as a cantonment during the Maratha rule. 111 cannons were deployed in Neemuch for the security of the city. The stolen cannon is also said to be from the same period. Historians say that in the year 1844, Neemuch came under the control of the British, and British rule was imposed here. During the revolution of 1857, the brave soldiers here fought with the British and drove them out of the city. A year after independence, in 1948, Gwalior state merged with Madhya Bharat.
