A century after 5 years
Sanju Samson has scored a century in first-class after almost 5 years. Earlier, he played an innings of 116 runs against Bengal in 2019. After that, before this match, Samson got to play only 9 red ball matches. In the first match of this tournament, India D captain Shreyas Iyer made him sit on the bench. He gave Samson a chance for the first time in the second match of the Duleep Trophy. Samson could not perform anything special in his first match. But in the second match itself, he wreaked havoc on the bowlers of India B with his bat.
After Sanju Samson's brilliant century, once again a debate has started about his place in Team India. Samson's fans are again demanding justice. They believe that due to the lack of any promotion, he was not selected for Team India. The selectors do not give him a chance consistently, whereas other batsmen are given a chance despite being flops.
India B captain Abhimanyu Easwaran won the toss and invited India D to bat. India D openers Devdutt Padikkal and Srikar Bharat had a good start. Both of them together made a partnership of 105 runs for the first wicket. But in scoring 50 runs after this, the team lost 4 wickets. Captain Shreyas Iyer was out without opening the account and India D seemed to be in trouble. After this, Samson came to bat at number 6.
Soon after, Ricky Bhui was also out from the other end. Half the team was back in the pavilion at a score of 216 runs. Then Samson started the counterattack. He started hitting boundaries and pushed India B on the backfoot. Samson hit 12 fours and 3 sixes in his innings of 106 runs. Due to his innings, India D managed to score 349 runs in the first innings.
