"Son was ill, there was no money for treatment...", a flower seller woman was murdered for just 1500 rupees

Gujrat News: A heartbreaking incident has come to light from Patan district of Gujarat, in which a father killed a woman to raise money for the treatment of his ailing son. This incident is from Lukhasan village of Sidhpur tehsil of Patan district, where on the night of 20 July 2024, the body of a woman was found hanging in a bush behind the Hanuman temple outside the village.
Father murdered for money
When the villagers saw the dead body of the woman in the bushes, they immediately informed the police. The police reached the spot and took possession of the body and sent it for post-mortem. During the investigation, it was found that the name of the deceased woman was Kesarben Rawal, who used to sell flower garlands on a cart outside the temple. In the preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the woman was murdered by strangulation. After this, the police registered a case of murder and started investigation.
Murder accused identified
Several teams of LCB, SOG, Cyber Crime and Sidhpur police of Patan district started the investigation. CCTV footage of the area was scanned and about 800 people were questioned, including local residents, farmers, and laborers. During this investigation, the police came to know that the person who committed the murder was Kalpesh Valmiki, a resident of the same village. The police took him into custody and interrogated him, during which he confessed to the crime.
Disclosure in police interrogation
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DYSP) KK Pandya said that during interrogation, the accused Kalpesh told that his son was ill and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Sidhpur. But he did not have money for the treatment. He asked his family, friends and relatives to borrow money, but no one helped him.
Shocking incident of murder
The need for money forced Kalpesh to commit the crime. On July 20, at 8:30 am, he reached Hanuman temple, where he saw a woman selling coconuts and puja items. He thought that the woman must have some money, so he went to the woman and suddenly attacked her. The woman had Rs 1500, which he looted. When the woman said that she would tell everyone in the village, Kalpesh strangled her to death and threw the body in the bushes.
This incident shook the entire village. The police have arrested the accused, and further interrogation is being done on him. This heartbreaking incident has pointed towards the increasing crime in the society and crimes happening due to financial constraints. Now there is hope for justice in the whole case, and people need to be aware to avoid such crimes.
